Best Practices for Sanitising BIXOLON Printing Devices

As the situation of Covid-19 coronavirus rapidly evolves, it is becoming more important than ever to protect employees in all areas of industry. With multiple employees often working within a space, sometimes using the same device, its key that a cleaning protocol is put into place for workers in the field.

Printers are often deemed a high touch devices and cleaning of that product is sometimes overlooked. Ongoing cleaning maintenance not only protects the user but also maintains the printer’s functionality and ability to product consistent high quality receipts, tickets, wristbands and labels.

To assist engaging in a cleaning protocol for your printer, BIXOLON has put together a simple set of guidelines to efficiently clean their range of printing products.

  • As recommended by the WHO World Health Organisation, the following non-abrasive disinfectants should be used to sanitise devices:
    • 70% ethyl alcohol
    • Sodium hypochlorite at 0.5% (equivalent to 5000 ppm)
  • Best practice is to wipe down all printer housing.
  • It is recommended to use disinfectant via a cloth or pre-saturated wipe (not sprayed or poured directly onto the device) for use on all printer surfaces to avoid liquid collection within the device.
  • Precaution must be taken when using disinfectants and other cleaners.

Step-by-Step Cleaning Process

Mobile Printers

  • Make sure the printer is turned off and not connected any type of AC/DC power source.
  • Use a damp soft cloth remove any visible dirt from the device.
  • Spray or pour a small amount of disinfectant onto the cloth or use a pre-saturated wipe to gently clean the device housing, screen and buttons.
    Particular care must be taken when cleaning the screen to not flood it with liquid.
  • After cleaning, thoroughly wipe down all surfaces of the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wait until the printer is completely dry before powering up for use.

 

 

Desktop Printers

  • Disconnect the printer from the AC/DC power source.
  • Use a damp, soft cloth remove any visible dirt from the device.
  • Spray or pour a small amount of disinfectant onto the cloth or use a pre-saturated wipe to gently clean the device housing, screen and buttons.
    Particular care must be taken when cleaning the screen to not flood it with liquid.
  • After cleaning, thoroughly wipe down all surfaces of the device with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Wait until the printer is completely dry before powering up for use.
